November has come and gone and the first two ESOC Bounty Board challenges have their winners. In the inaugural Last Man Standing challenge, which asked players to be the fastest to collect 100,000, @CaRp took the prize of $100 with a French Fur-Trade boom on Honshu collecting his 100,000 at 20:51! If Age Of Empires 2 HD wont start or launch on Steam, then I maybe have a fix for you for the problem! Maybe it won't work for everyone, but I think for many. If graphics drivers are old and outdated, age of empire 3 initialization failed windows 10 error may arise. So first of all, you need to check if graphics are updated to the latest version. You will need a high-speed internet connection to update graphics card drivers.

It is an error when I tried to play my Age of Empires III game in Windows 10. I have the game which is installed on Steam platform. It is an old game, which is released 11 years ago, or 2005. I played it on Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows 7. Now I installed it on Windows 10. It gave me an error and closed.
Jul 29, 2015 I did open the Asian dynasties from 'C: Program Files (x86) Steam steamapps common Age Of Empires 3 bin' the product key on steam would not work, I happen to have my old key for Asian dynasties which did work, but then I went to the online multiplayer part and got more failed messages.

I checked and fixed the error with two steps.
Step 1. The error of compatible mode.
Steam Age Of Empires 3 Complete Collection Initialization Failed
I located the executive files and change the properties. age3y.exe
It is located on Steam library. Mine is D:steam-games. So the files are in d:steam-gamessteamappscommonage of empires 3bin
Right click on the file and choose properties, click Compatibility tab, make sure choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3) Compatibility mode and choose Run this program as an administrator.
Step 2. Install Directplay in Windows 10
Right click Start, choose Programs and Features, Click Turn Windows features on or off.
Make sure there is a checkmark in Legacy Components, click the + to expand, check the box for DirectPlay.
It may ask for rebooting.
After these two steps, the game can run properly on Windows 10.
It solved the problem of DirectPlay 0x80071A90. And also solved the problem of the Age of Empires 3 on Windows 10.
This error which some people have reported seems to happen mostly if you run a widescreen monitor. I believe the problem has been fixed since the demo was put together so it will work in the full version of the game.I actually got the error on my own machine when I installed the demo and I've found I think two work arounds on my own machine to fix it.
1.) Delete the file NewProfile.xml in your /Age of Empires 3 Trial/Users/NewProfile.xml directory.
1A.) Set your screen resolution to 1024x768, then rerun the game.
1A.) Set your screen resolution to 1024x768, then rerun the game.
or. Install mac os mojave on macbook pro 2011.
2.) Open NewProfile.xml and fine the line that specifies the optiongrfxres and change the res to say 1024x768. In my particular case it was initializing to 1280x768, which my machine did not like much.
For some reason it initializes to a resolution some video cards have problems with if you have a widescreen monitor (I have the 24' widescreen at home and had this problem)
It seems to only happen the first time you run the game, I believe once you get it up and running once, it doesn't happen again.

P.S. Please reply if this worked for you. It seems about half the help threads are about this issue.
